Ali holds a BSc in Physics and Geology. He began his career as a well-site geologist with BP in its North Sea Operations. In 1980 he joined PETRONAS and was involved in offshore East and West Malaysia E & P activities. In 1993 he was involved in the formation of PETRONAS' Overseas business development team acquiring new E & P assets internationally by first building up Petronas' E & P assets through JVs and PSCs in the South Asian region and then later expanding to the Indian Continent, Sahara and Sub Saharan Regions. He has managed Operating JV assets in the West African region and being based in the region until 2006. His last assignment with PETRONAS was to lead the Latin America and Caribbean E & P business. He joined EER in Q4 2007.
